The Faces of OLLI [#6]: Meet Greg Savad
[by Alan Sturrock, Blogger]
Prior to arriving in the Wilmington area in 2024, I lived in central New Jersey and am still working as a title abstractor for the real estate industry which is why I usually sit in the back of a class and have my laptop with me. I am also working on a long term project to build infrastructure in several countries in Africa which is still in the funding stages seven years later!! But hope springs eternal (Alexander Pope).
I first became aware of OLLI mid fall semester in 2024 when I saw a stack of catalogs in the Pine Valley library and once I opened it up, I found classes right away and haven't stopped. I do have to say it was easier to be a full time student and work full time when I was 20 as opposed to 40 years later!!
I am very interested in social justice and environmental causes, which these days can both be categorized together so the myriad of courses offered at this coastal town OLLI have certainly kept the synapses firing and my outrage at the ignorance of so many at a boil.
As an active volunteer participant in juvenile justice programming the last 15 years, I would love to see a class that could utilize everyone's brain power to continue to help these kids stay out of the system by thinking of new programming as well as those in the system to stay out once they have addressed their issues and consequences.
